a photo of matt salernoCongratulations to Assistant Principal Matt Salerno on being named the FCPS 2018 Region 4 Outstanding Leader and one of five finalists for this year's FCPS Outstanding School-based Leader Award!

Mr. Salerno has taken the power of being positive to new heights as assistant principal at Halley. Last year, he launched the popular “Positivity Project” to educate students about the 24 character traits found in each individual. Through Halley’s Band of Brothers, he mentors fifth and sixth-grade boys from diverse backgrounds and teaches them how to be good citizens. Meanwhile, teachers give him high marks for collaboration and his support of the positive behavioral approach to building a dynamic school culture. “All his interactions always seem to veer toward possibilities instead of what cannot be done,” said one. “He never says no to an opportunity to help.”

Congratulations also to the other Halley Elementary School staff members recognized at FCPS Honors!
